Kason School ending

Kason's 4th grade program was today and he did a great job!  He is one of the tallest kids in his grade, so he got to be right in the center of the back row.  They sang several songs about Utah history and it was very informative.

This was a train song about Promontory Point where all the kids were chugga-ing.

Kason and 3 other boys sang a quartet to a verse in one of their songs.

He earned his "Radiant Roadrunner" award again this year.  It's getting hard to earn it as he gets older, so he's been involved in a lot of activities and done a great job in 4th grade.

Unlike most kids, Kason is actually really sad to see the school year ending.  And that's mostly because of this lady, Mrs. Eves.  She has been an awesome teacher and even came to one of his basketball games this winter.  He has LOVED being in her class and says she is the best teacher EVER!  He's sad to be leaving her class.  But he's been selected to be on the school leadership team (student council) in 5th grade, so I'm sure next year will be great too.

Brothers

Just a cute picture of little brothers as they were swinging yesterday.  We are sure enjoying the lovely spring weather and the ability to play outside before it gets too hot.

Beauty and the Beast

My friend Janet, who serves as one of my counselors in the Primary, called me Saturday and said she and her husband were taking their 2 grand-daughters to see the play "Beauty and the Beast."  They had an extra ticket and invited Abby to come along.  Abby's eyes got wide when I told her and she was SOOO excited.  They picked her up early and took her for a happy meal.  Then took her to the play in Hurricane, and bought her treats at the play too.  It was a fun afternoon for her and I was so glad Janet included her.  That night Abby pulled out her "Belle" barbie doll and was telling me all the differences between Belle the Barbie and Belle in real life.  Color of shoes, bow in hair, etc.  The other girls in the pictures are Brooklyn and Marley, and Abby's been asking me when she can play with "Narley" again.

Monday night hike

We took advantage of the beautiful spring weather Monday night to head out for a little fresh air at Snow Canyon.  We just climbed up a small rock near the picnic areas and let the kids get some energy out.  Then we grabbed a bite of dinner at McDonalds and let the kids play until bedtime at a park close to Snow Canyon.  Tige spun the 3 big kids around and around on these little circle chairs until they couldn't see straight.  They loved it!  Taylor was hilarious when getting up from the circle chair because he couldn't contain his dizziness and fell down every time.

Soccer

Kason played soccer this spring, and sadly was on a losing team again.  He was a great player and worked hard, but they didn't win a single game.  It was a 3-4 grade league, and he was the only 4th grader on his team.  A couple of the games the other teams had a really good player, and they would keep that player in the entire game at the striker position running up the score.  This is a league where each child is supposed to play at least half the game, so when other teams are keeping their "star" playing in the whole game, having him kick the penalty kicks even when the score is 8-0 is frustrating to say the least.

Kason enjoyed playing goalie some of the time because he was always able to stop the ball, and he has a killer drop-kick, almost clear to the other goal!  He was a good sport, despite the frustration sometimes and I'm proud of the kind, caring young man he is growing up to be.

Grandma Hazleton, Teina, and JaNae's family all came to his last game (with doughnuts and chocolate milk) so that was fun.  Dad also came to his last game despite the fact he'd just worked a graveyard.  Lots of people love this kid.

Preschool Party

The district held a big preschool party for all the preschools in the district (Title 1 preschools). Tige took Abby & Taylor to it and they had a great time, it was held downtown and was full of fun activities such as musical chairs, penguin/ball walk, egg carry, parachutes, sack hop, etc. Abby has loved her preschool this year and is a little smarty.  She is reading simple books, and knows all 26 uppercase letters, lowercase letters, and all letter sounds.  She is definitely ready for kindergarten. Taylor gets to start preschool in the fall and is pretty excited about that!

Sand Hollow

Andy/Rachel were down for their spring break during General Conference Weekend.  Melenie was also down here with her boys.  So we met Clark's family and G&G Taylor at Sand Hollow Saturday for a little fun.  Clark drove us around in his Razr, and we had a picnic lunch.  The kids loved playing in the sand, but it quickly turned cold and windy, so we bailed.  I wasn't very prepared and didn't have extra clothing or jackets for my kids.  Taylor got all sandy, then all wet, then was very cold.  Good thing Aunt Char is always extra prepared and helped us out with warm clothes.

Taylor's first ride in the razr.  He wasn't sure he enjoyed it.

Love this picture of Taylor in the sand.  This was the picture before he rinsed off and was shaking cold.

Pinewood Derby time at Scouts!
This year we made a Minecraft themed car, Herobrine.  We always make really cool cars, but unfortunately they are not fast.  The 2 previous years his car has been middle-range fast.  But this boxey, Minecraft car was downright slow.  I think it took last in every heat.  I was incredibly proud of Kason for his good sportsmanship when he continued to lose round after round.  He was still happy and smiling, giving high-5's to the other boys, and cheering the others on.

Park with Teina

Tige's sister Teina was babysitting the kids and walked them down to the park.  I think this might have been Zach's first outing to the park where he got in the swings.  I'm so glad Teina thought to grab my camera and snap some pictures.

Basketball

Kason had a great basketball season even though his poor team didn't win any games.  He played hard and scored at least half of the points his team got in each game.  His good friends Kaleb & Taye were on his team, and they were coach by Taye's dad Brian.

Cabin Weekend

We finally got to go to the cabin!  We only went once in all of 2012, so we were excited to get away finally.  On the way up, Tige & Kason stopped to night ski at Brian Head while the rest of us headed up with my parents.  It was Kason's first time skiing.  The snow was crappy--all iced over and hard.  They went down the slope 5 or 6 times until they felt like they had sufficiently injured their bodies on the hard snow, and then called it a night.  Kason had trouble snow plowing to a stop, so he usually stopped at the bottom with some sort of magnificent crash.  The ski lift operator started calling him "Tokoyo drift."

Here are some additional pictures from the weekend.  There was hardly any snow up there, which is really odd for February.  So everything was terribly muddy and gross.  We took everything in by 4-wheeler since we couldn't snowmobile with no snow and the road was too muddy to drive on.  Then we just stayed in and played, watched movies, and hung out.  David & Cristal's family where there too along with G&G Taylor.  It's always a fun & relaxing getaway.

Ethan & Taylor.

The kids and grandpa all trying to teach Zach to crawl.  He was up on all fours, but wasn't moving yet other than a little rocking.  It's funny because within a week of this picture, he was OFF and crawling!

 Ipad party!
