Kason's First Race & Ducks

Tige was planning to run the "Tuacahn Duathon" this weekend (run, bike, run), but he's had a cold all week and has been feeling lousy, so he had to sit this one out. However, we still went and Kason did the kid's race. It was his first race and was around the perimeter of the Tuacahn parking lot (about 0.4 miles). He did great. I wasn't really counting, but he took about 5th place, and the boys that finished in front of him were at least 10 years old. He ran the whole way and when he finished said "my heart was killing me."

After the race, we stopped at Marv's for lunch. Abby enjoyed her ice cream cone more than words can say. She was covered in ice cream by the time we were done.

This afternoon we went to fed the ducks by one of the golf courses in town. Kason just loved it and said "this is the best afternoon ever!" Abby, on the other hand, wanted to eat the bread herself and wasn't happy we kept throwing it to the ducks. She also REALLY wanted to take a swim in the pond, and it was all we could do to keep a hold on her.

Our outing with the ducks reminded us of our home in VA Beach when Kason was little--we had a huge pond near our house where we used to go for walks. We'd feed the ducks & play at the park. Now my boy is all grown up and can't even remember Virginia Beach. In some ways it seems like a life time ago. But it was a fun reminder of the things we did when Kason was Abby's age.

It's a BOY!

I had my ultrasound yesterday and found out that sweet baby is a boy! He was wiggling and moving all over the place--it was so fun to see him move. He kept covering his face with his arm, so we had a hard time seeing his features, but finally at the end he cooperated and gave us a good look at his little face. He had his legs crossed and was just chillin & happy. I feel him move a lot, especially at night when I'm trying to fall asleep. How is it that he's managing to keep me awake when he won't be born for 19 more weeks? We're very excited--Kason was at a primary activity when we finished the ultrasound and we went and told him it's a boy. He yelled out to the whole room "my mom's having a brother!" So fun.

Creme Brulee?

Who makes Creme Brulee? Well, apparently my husband does. Yesterday after work he came home with 4 ramekins, a blow torch, and an announcement that he was going to make creme brulee. Huh? My husband doesn't cook or bake. He occasionally empties the dishwasher. Anyway, this morning he set out to make creme brulee. Apparently he watched a how-to video on the internet. He starting adding ingredients and speaking to me in a french accent, asking things like "do we have a whisk?" He was so funny. Anyway, after lunch today, he torched our creme brulee's. They were delicious, and I was impressed. I told him he'd better be watching more "how-to" videos and coming up with more great stuff!

Snow Canyon

We had a great Valentine's Day/President's Day Weekend. Here's our little Valentine after church on Sunday. She looked so cute. Tige had flowers delivered on Friday. I thought that would be all, but Saturday he surprised me with a beautiful charm bracelet. There were jeweled slides with the kid's birthstones and a silver heart one for Tige. We can add to it when we have our baby. I gave Tige our blog for 2009 that I had printed into a book and also some ice packs and covers he'd been wanting. Kason also got some legos and treats. He asked me a week before Valentine's what he was getting and I said "I'm giving a present to daddy because you give a present to your sweetheart on Valentine's Day." He said "aren't I your sweetheart?" Well, yes, I guess he is!


Then Monday morning we went to Snow Canyon State Park to try out the new child carrier backpack we bought so we could hike with Abby. We also took our bikes and had a great time. Kason and Abby were in heaven and grinned from ear to ear the whole time. We biked, then hiked the hidden pinyon trail, ate a picnic lunch, then biked some more. It was a beautiful, sunny day.

Abby enjoyed getting out of the backpack and walking around as we ate lunch. She kept picking up rocks, but once hit her head on a big rock as she bent down to pick up little rocks. She loves being outside.

The boys rode their bikes from the trail parking lot down through the park. The plan was for me to pick them up at the park entrance, but they were having so much fun, they rode half way into town. I finally picked them up about 3 miles down the road. A pretty good ride for a little 6 year old. We decided he needs a bigger bike this summer with hand brakes.

The craziest thing happened on the hike after we'd eaten lunch. We ran into Abby, one of my old college roommates who lives in Fairview. I haven't seen her since her wedding over 13 years ago. What are the chances that I'd see my old friend on some remote trail in Snow Canyon? I was so excited to see her, I didn't even think to take a picture! It was so fun to run into her.

When we got home, I soaked in a hot bath for over an hour and read a book. What a great day. Of course, then my back was killing me all afternoon and evening. Hiking and biking 5 months pregnant is not easy task. I might be done hiking until this fall.

Boo Boo on the Tramp

Yesterday may have been nasty, snowy weather back East with nearly 6,000 flights cancelled, but it was a BEAUTIFUL day in St. George where it was warm and sunny. I took Kason & Abby out in the back yard for Abby's first jump on the trampoline. She did NOT enjoy it. She was petrified and wouldn't even stand up alone. I finally got on and held her on my lap, and then she was ok with Kason bouncing us, but overall she was not a big fan of the trampoline. We called her "Boo Boo Baby." Abby's "oh no, I'm scared face."

Kason was just thrilled to have someone else out there with him for a change.
