End of Kindergarten

School is over and we are SAD! Kason has loved kindergarten so much! Monday night was the awards ceremony at his school, and he was one of only 2 kids in his class to get the "Radiant Roadrunner" award, which is an award students must earn in each grade by meeting certain requirements. Kason had to do such things as: turn in 100% of his homework and 100% of his reading charts, be able to write all uppercase and lowercase letters, know the sounds of all the letters, write numbers 1-30, count to 100 by ones, fives, and tens, know his address, phone number, birthdate, etc. He was excited to get his very own medal, just like his dad's triathlon medals!
Tuesday the kindergarten put a little program where they recited poetry and sang songs. I should shoot myself for not bringing my flip camcorder along because it was PRICELESS. Kason knew every word to every song, sang loud, and was such a cute little ham. So we'll settle for some pictures and my recollection of some of the songs. Tige took the day off work to be able to attend this program, and it was so worth it. Kason was adorable.
I am special, I am me. I have two hands, two eyes to see.
A nose to smell, my ears hear well, a mouth to talk and two legs to walk.
But that's not all because you see, I am special, I am me.
When you're feeling kind of blue, and you want to feel brand new, S-M-I-L-E Smile!
and
Oh Mr. Sun, Sun, Mr. Golden Sun, please shine down on me. . .

The ink is black, the page is white, the whole world looks upon the sight.
A child is black, a child is white, and together they learn to read and write.
A beautiful sight, and now a child can understand that this is the law of all the land...
You are my sunshine, my only sunshine. You make me happy when skies are gray.
You'll never know, dear, how much I love you, please don't take my sunshine away.
Kason pointed at us when he said "how much I love you" and smiled and sang so sweetly, he nearly had me bawling.
Lollipop, lollipop, oh lolli, lolli, lolli, Lollipop. 'POP'

Ashton, Trinity & Kason
(After the program Trinity's mom asked for a picture with these two boys. This is our little letter writer from my last blog post. She's written Kason about 7 letters in the past 4 days of school. She has a beta fish named Kason and wants to go on a date).

Kason's teacher, Mrs. Bruschke.
His words, "I love that she's nice and she's a great teacher. She cares for us, and she give us recess. And I like that she's beautiful."

Girls, Girls, Girls

Kason got his first letter from a girl at school today. Tige and I just giggled as he read it to us. I had to put it on my blog so I'd always remember. It says:

Dear Kason,
I have a fish named Kason. You are a super hero. You are a genus. I don't now how to spell your last name. Is it Haselton? I have very good questions for you. What is your email? What is your phone number? What is your house number? Because mine is 203. You rock! Where is your house? Do you have any pets?
From Trinity

Trinity is a new girl in his kindergarten who moved here from Texas. Kason has come home from school sad the last few days saying the kids were teasing him because he has a girlfriend. They say "you have a girlfriend!" and "You're in love!"

I can't quite believe we're dealing with girl issues at the tender age of 6, but hey, my son is good-looking. What can I say? He takes after his daddy!

St. George Tri

Tige did the St. George Triathlon on Saturday, May 15. Being 8 months pregnant, I wasn't planning on taking the kids to go stand around for 2 hours. Doesn't sound like my idea of fun. But when I woke up that morning I was laying in bed thinking "entertain the kids all morning at home, or go watch Tige." So I get everybody dressed and ready and we headed to Sand Hollow.

Last time he had a triathlon at Sand Hollow, we drove right up and parked in the upper lot by the lake. No big deal. This time, they were making us park down in the lower lots and on the side of the road. I was coming late, so I parked way, way, WAY far away. Loaded Abby in the stroller and with Kason by my side we began walking. We walked and walked and walked and walked, like pioneer children. It was crazy. Probably walked 5 miles when it was all said and done. I had no idea I'd have to park so far away or I'd have stayed home. My back was out of commission for 2 days.

Anyway, we rounded the corner to the bottom of the hill where the bike and run route was, and just a minute later, Tige zoomed by on his bike. It was only about 16 minutes after the whole thing had started, so I was amazed he'd done his swim so fast and was already on his bike. We yelled "GO DADDY" and Tige yelled "HEY!" He was very surprised to see us there. We walked up the hill and waited around and soon he come back up the hill on his bike, and a minute or 2 later, ran back down the hill for the run. He shaved about 4 minutes off his time from last fall, which was impressive considering the run portion was almost 1/2 mile further. He quickened his running pace by over a minute per mile.

Unfortunately, Tige had the camera with him as I wasn't planning on going, so I wasn't able to get any pictures. So you'll have to settle for my memory.

Family Fun

Tige was off work today and Kason has short kindergarten Fridays, so we went to a little pond/park nearby. We took Kason's fishing pole, and he practiced casting the reeling it in. We fed the ducks and geese, and they honked loudly and chased my kids around. Abby followed the ducks saying "doggie, doggie!" We played at the park and ate a yummy picnic lunch. I sat with my 8-month pregnant belly on a swinging chair and watched Kason play as my sweet husband chased Abby around the kept her from walking into the pond. We were the only ones there. It was fun and relaxing and peaceful. I sure love my family.

Ironman Fun Run

Yesterday was the first ever IRONMAN race in St. George. Tige was a volunteer in the medical tent, and started numerous IV's for athletes who had to stop the race prematurely. He enjoyed it so much. He went back late in the evening to see some of his friends from the Southern Utah Triathlon Club cross the finish line. He wants to do the full St. George Ironman in 2012. Friday night they had a kids Ironman race, which Kason ran in. It was one mile. When Tige told me about it, I said "he's only 6! He can't run a full mile." But he proved me wrong when Tige took him out on a practice run, and he ran a mile in only 11 minutes. Amazing. I can't even dream of doing that. Anyway, he ran the kids race and had a good time. He got a shirt and his own medal.
They got to cross the finish line at the real Ironman finish line.

Last weekend there was a family bike ride that we went to. The kid's both got a new helmet and then they rode 4.5 miles. Tige was hoping I'd ride too, but with my 7 month pregnant belly, I opted to sit on the grass and read a book.

After the bike race, we had ice cream. Unfortunately my baby wipes were in the car and the race people didn't have napkins, so we were left with this mess (which Daddy licked up).

Clark's kids were here last week and they enjoyed playing on the swingset. We switched out the middle hanging bar thing for the tire swing, and they ran around and played outside until they were ready to drop. So much fun.

Abby LOVES being outside. Can you tell?
