Popsicle Time

Spring has sprung at our house, which means one thing. Popsicles! I saw this idea on pinterest, and whoever came up with it was pure genious! Muffin cup underneath the popsicle. When he doesn't have one, there's a mess all over his pants, shirt, and hands. With the muffin cup underneath, no mess at all except on his face. Love it!

Derby Time

Horray for Kason's first pinewood derby car. I looked on the internet for some ideas, and happened to run across a couple of different shark cars. Kason right away knew just what me wanted. A shark car that's dark blue! So we did our best to make it happen. Tige & Kason worked on it together. We were pretty sure it wasn't going to be very fast, but dang did it look cool! We kept telling Kason "this car was built for looks, not speed" so he wouldn't be too upset when it was slow.

Turns out it was the middle of the pack and placed in the 3rd heat overall out of seven heats in the finals. Holy moly have pinewood derbies gone high-tech since the days of my brothers. They have computerized tracks that tell you which lane won and averages the times from each heat. I had no idea!

Kason's car was voted "most unique" which qualifies it to be shown at the Scout Expo in a few weeks. He also got an award for most creative. He was pretty excited! Using the ugly scrub cap to keep the sawdust out of the hair.

P.S. We usually don't take Taylor to pack meetings because he's a monster. We take turns staying home with him. We took him this time, and it was a mistake. He was horrible and had to be brought home early. Ugh!

Spring Break, Part 2

We joined a bunch of friends at Snow Canyon HS Track for a "run your age" kid's race. The kids had to run a lap for every year old. So Taylor 1 lap, Abby 3, and Kason 8. (This doesn't sound like my idea of fun, but apparently it is to Tige and his friends!) We raced with Beckstrands, Fords, Egberts, Coats, and Christensens. Cathy secured old medals from a past city race, so each of the kids got a cool medal when they finished. Taylor was the first kid to finish and Abby was the 2nd. (they were the 2 youngest). They did great, and when Abby finished her 3 laps, she did another, so ended up running a mile. After the race, we went to a park and had a picnic lunch, and then went for a hike. We went to hike Johnson's Trail at Snow Canyon. It was Friday March 16. We all get about 1/2 mile into the hike and discover the trail has a barrier acrossed it and is marked at closed. Apparently it closes March 15 through October to protect the habitat. Dang, only 1 day late! Just as well though, because Taylor is getting heavy to carry in the pack. Tige took the 2 big kids swimming instead and I took Taylor home for a nap. Then we had an adults dinner @ Outback. It was such a great day.

Spring Breat at Home

Tige and I are going on a cruise in just a few weeks, so we decided to stay home for spring break this year. Kason had a whole week off school. I promised him we'd "do something fun like go to Jumpin Jacks." Why do I do these things to myself. We played with friends the first day or two, then I spent a day shopping with my mom while the kids were with a babysitter. So by Thursday, Kason was holding me to my promise about Jumpin Jacks. Ugh. They had a great time, but I didn't. I just followed Taylor around for 2 straight hours because he thinks he's a big boy and gets himself into trouble. I can't trust him to know his limits. Also, Abby took the opportunity to go #2 in her panties. She has never, NEVER had a #2 accident since we started potty training her. She frequently has pee accidents, but never poop. So that wasn't enjoyable. I just threw the first pair of underwear away and put on the clean pair that I had thankfully brought along. Potty training is the devil.

Anyway, the kids had fun and Kason was very sweet to kind of "watch over" both of them and help them play. He's a good kid. I will NOT be taking Taylor again until he's at least 3. Don't let me forget...

A day at the park

Melenie was in St. George for a few days, so we met up at the park just so the kids could hang out. It was a beautiful, warm day and we had a good time playing, chatting, and eating snacks. Besides me, Melenie is about the only other person I know without a sister. So when she comes to town, we try to sometimes get pedicures, go to lunch, or just hang out because it's sad not having a sister.
