Kason is 9 years old today! How can it be true? Time flies!
We woke up and Tige went out got one of Kason's favorite breakfasts, a Burker King croissanwich. Then we opened all his presents. The lucky boy got a skateboard, new pj's, a new shirt with matching beanie hat, some target spinners, a pocket knife, and a light for the spokes of his bike. Tige participated or single-handedly picked out every single present for this birthday, which is something he NEVER does! He went above and beyond. Kason also got a fleece blanket from G&G Hazleton, a metal bat and baseballs from G&G Taylor, and a glow-in-the dark frisbee ring from Brock! And even though we didn't have an official birthday party, he got presents from 2 super nice friends. Ashton gave him a nerf shotgun, and Lance gave him a game and some candy!
After opening presents, we headed to our "Color Me Rad" 5k race. We signed up for this back in August. Kason thought it sounded like a really fun thing to do for his birthday. About a week after signing up, I found out I was pregnant. I have been really pukey and tired, so needless to say I didn't get much training done. I have dreaded the race and thought of backing out many times, but I bucked up and did it for my boy on his birthday!
Here we are in our nice, white shirts before it started. It was freezing. I think it was around 35 degrees (plus a frigid wind).
Kason loved getting the color, even rolling around in it! Tige and Kason ran ahead of me since I had to take frequent walk breaks, but they waited for me at each color station.
Notice the hot pink hand print on my shirt...thanks Tige!
When we crossed the finish line, every racer got a package of color to bomb yourself or somebody else with. Kason happened to get a blue packet that was so full of colored cornstarch it was practically solid. We opened it, and while I was in the middle of a sentence, the stinker bombed me right in the FACE! It got all over my tongue and on my teeth. Good thing it was his birthday...
It was a really fun race. And just FYI, the stuff doesn't wash out of clothing very well despite what the website says...I have faint pink spots on all my clothes and shoes. And I had blue in my ears for 3 days!
Immediately after the race, Kason had his last flag football game of the year. He scored 3 touchdowns (one that was a hand-off, and 2 passes!) It was a great game. Here's his teach and coach.
